Joy of the jolly jar

This term, our Project Based Learning (PBL) started with the teachers putting us into groups. In these groups we had to work collaboratively to create Jolly Jars for the school fair. This task helped us to begin exploring our PBL question for the term - How can we build community through our actions? We had to research ideas, be creative with our product, experiment with our materials and write instructions that could be followed by others.

Here is a link to my instructions.

I learnt that instructions need to have steps and they have to have a verb (a doing word) at the start of each step or stage. Instructions also have to be clear and easy to be read by other people. When you are writing instructions you need to be bossy at the start of each sentence.

Reflection on PBL
For our Jolly Jars my group has created a way to make a snow globe. These were exciting because we wrote the instructions ourselves and we put many different decorations and colors off glitter in the jars. You can also design the snow globe to be the way you like it.

I contributed to my group by trying my best to bring as many materials as I could. I helped come up with the idea. I also helped as much as I could to write the instructions and make the labels for my group.

Our Jolly Jar was creative because we had different figures in each jar. We made our own custom labels. We not only put all the materials in the jar to make a snow globe  but we gave you other things to decorate the jar with too.

What I learned about working with others was, Sometimes it can be hard to work with people I am not usually working with. I learnt to work with different personalities and characters. In the end we made a really good product that other people loved.

How did we build community through our actions?. We built community by making a jolly jar for our school. All the money from the jolly jars went towards the bike track.
